Laboratory of spontaneous combustion and thermal decomposition

In the laboratory, it is possible to assess the risks during the handling of solid and liquid substances, during their transport, storage or processing, and proposals for preventive measures within the elimination of risks of technological procedures. The behavior of substances at temperatures below the ignition temperature is monitored by various methods, specially developed and standardized. Standardized methods include, for example, the Mackey test according to ASTM D3523-92 for the evaluation of oils and paints as well as the evaluation of substances with a tendency to spontaneous combustion according to regulations for the transport of dangerous goods by rail (RID) or road transport (ADR). Newly introduced methods include the method according to DIN 53436, which is used to evaluate the toxicity of combustion products of solid or liquid substances.

List of devices

Circular Furnace According to DIN 53436

The apparatus according to DIN 53436 is intended for the preparation of gaseous fumes of thermal decomposition of materials in an air stream. It consists of a quartz glass tube, on which a circular furnace is moved heating the inner space of the tube to a temperature of 100 - 800 °C. The conditions are set to simulate the first phase of a fire.

Auto Ignition Furnace

The apparatus is designed to evaluate the behavior of materials during heating and allows the choice of conditions in a wide range. The heating temperature can be selected from ambient temperature to 600 °C, with programmable temperature rise. The composition of the atmosphere is also optional.

FTIR Spectrometer Nicolet iS10

The Fourier transform infrared spectrometer enables fast and non-destructive qualitative and quantitative analyses. It is equipped with SMART extensions, so it allows 3 types of analyses
