Laboratory of spontaneous combustion and thermal decomposition

In the laboratory, it is possible to assess the risks during the handling of solid and liquid substances, during their transport, storage or processing, and proposals for preventive measures within the elimination of risks of technological procedures. The behavior of substances at temperatures below the ignition temperature is monitored by various methods, specially developed and standardized. Standardized methods include, for example, the Mackey test according to ASTM D3523-92 for the evaluation of oils and paints as well as the evaluation of substances with a tendency to spontaneous combustion according to regulations for the transport of dangerous goods by rail (RID) or road transport (ADR). Newly introduced methods include the method according to DIN 53436, which is used to evaluate the toxicity of combustion products of solid or liquid substances.

Explosion prevention laboratory

The laboratory allows to determine some explosion characteristics of mixtures of flammable gases, vapors, flammable liquids and dust-air mixtures, including determination of fire technical characteristics of flammable dusts, eg upper and lower explosion limits, determination of combustion rate or minimum ignition temperature of settled dust.

EPS and EZS laboratory

It is used to work with some dedicated fire safety devices and security systems. For the needs of teaching, electrical fire alarm and electrical security alarm systems are installed in the laboratory. The equipment of the laboratory also enables some field measurements during large-scale experiments.

Laboratory of VOC removal from water

The ATS Delfín KaHa pumping station is located in the laboratory, which enables the supply of water to the laboratory located on the 3rd floor for testing water jets. It is a closed system, which includes a buffer tank with a volume of 5 m3.

Chemistry laboratory

The laboratory is equipped to perform experiments associated with the need for chemical analyzes, such as determination of toxicity of combustion products and thermal decomposition, analysis of pyrolysis residues, etc.

Laboratory of thermal analysis and reaction to fire

As the name suggests, it is possible in the laboratory to perform, for example, measurements to determine the production of heat during the burning of the investigated material or to monitor the properties of materials as a function of temperature (TGA). In the laboratory, students can work in the field of PTCH materials in the processing of diploma or bachelor's theses. The laboratory is equipped with instrumentation, which is not used for direct teaching of students in laboratory exercises.

Water jets test room

The laboratory is used for testing sprinkler heads, nozzles, etc. It allows measuring and recording the pressure and flow of water before the sprinkler or nozzle. At the same time, the shape of the fragmented water stream can be monitored and recorded. The water supply is ensured by a pumping station, which together with a buffer tank with a volume of 5 m3 is located in the laboratory of building materials on the 1st floor. The laboratory together with the "fire-resistant" space located in the neighboring PTZM laboratory enables physical modeling of the fire and measurement of a number of parameters in the event of a fire with low heat output.

Fire Technical Test Chamber

It is a specially designed laboratory for performing tests at the interface between laboratory tests and large-scale fire tests. A "fireproof" space (2.7 x 2.7 m) is built in the laboratory, separately ventilated above the roof of the building. It is possible to measure the parameters accompanying a fire with low heat output, to test selected fire safety equipment, including a sprinkler SHZ in the conditions of a real fire.

Laboratory of materials and liquids

It is the largest laboratory in hall "C", which is used to determine the fire technical characteristics and technical safety parameters of solid or liquid substances, including the determination of toxic products arising from combustion and thermal degradation. It is mainly used for laboratory exercises of students. The laboratory has 28 workplaces equipped with extraction, the performance of the air conditioning system allows simultaneous work on 11 of them.
